limits_to_growth

A study from 2008 supports the deductions of a debated environmental paper published 40 years ago. According to the Australian physicist Graham Turner, who reexamined possibly the most revolutionary academic work of the 1970s, The Limits to Growth – we are on track for disaster…

Different Jobs

by on Nov.13, 2011, under Sociopol, Thought

The following summarization of the year 2011 has gained huge popularity on the Internet. Two very important historical events followed by the outmost disregard and contempt towards a well-known Italian politician. The term “jobs” links all three of them.

Success

by on Nov.13, 2011, under Misc, Sociopol, Thought

Some might disagree with this statement and I won’t quarrel neither on the definition on success nor on how it really looks like getting there. I will summarize my own personal view with the words of Moliere: “The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.”

Different views within IT projects

by on Oct.31, 2011, under Tech, Thought

This 4×4 matrix reveals in a humoristic manner the different views that might arise within IT projects. The accuracy of these distinctive assessments obviously varies between projects and although the matrix presents the extremes it is not seldom of some relevance for the understanding of an IT projects dynamics.

Great people talk about…

by on Oct.31, 2011, under Sociopol, Thought

Found this image on the web and couldn’t help utterly agreeing with its distinction of topic conversations. Next time you find yourself discussing something with your acquaintances let them lead the dialogue to find out the level of contribution to humanity and its evolution that you might have in front of you. Most often my conversations “climb upwards” where the parties initially cover the fundamental and primitive to later in the evening end up reviewing visions, philosophies and dreams. So don´t give up to soon! Most of us are by nature positively biased towards such a development – it’s the individuals that get stuck at the “bottom” the you have to watch out for :).

Green web design

by on Oct.31, 2011, under Tech, Thought

“Image displayed is primarily a function of the user’s color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen.” Roberson et al, 2002.

Hence the dark theme of this website. Every little bit counts! It would not surprise me if we in a couple of years will se “green certifications” of websites that have environmentally conscious design. Perhaps with a negative, yet negligible trade-off towards user friendliness :).
